In an unprecedented administrative milestone, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has officially announced the comprehensive date sheet and examination schedule for both Class 10 and Class 12 Board Examinations for the 2026–2027 academic session on November 6, 2026. Released a historic 101 days prior to the commencement of the examinations, the official timetable allows lakhs of secondary and senior secondary students across India and 26 foreign countries ample time to plan their revision schedules.
1. Historic 101-Day Advance Release: What Makes 2027 Unique
Historically, CBSE announced board exam timetables in late December or early January—barely 40 to 50 days before the exams began. For the 2027 examinations, CBSE Controller of Examinations released the timetable in early November. This forward-looking scheduling offers significant advantages:
- Zero Subject Overlaps: The board mapped out more than 40,000 distinct subject combinations chosen by Class 12 students to guarantee that no student faces two examinations on the exact same date and time.
- Sufficient Preparation Intervals: Generous gaps ranging from 3 to 6 days have been deliberately scheduled between core demanding subjects (such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, and Accountancy).
- Coordination with National Competitive Entrances: Class 12 papers wrap up on April 9, 2027, ensuring candidates have unhindered schedules ahead of major national entrance examinations like JEE Main Session 2, NEET-UG, and CUET-UG.

Following the release of the date sheet, reports by national education platforms (including The Telegraph India Edugraph) highlighted a calendar conflict: Monday, March 22, 2027 coincides with the widely celebrated festival of Rangwali Holi / Dhulandi across northern and western India.
The 5 Class 12 Papers Scheduled on March 22, 2027:
1. Knowledge Tradition and Practices of India (Subject Code: 073)
2. Bhoti (Subject Code: 188)
3. Kokborok (Subject Code: 191)

Current Official Status: While students and teacher associations have urged the board to reschedule these 5 vocational and regional papers to an alternate slot, CBSE has not issued any modification circular. Board officials noted that these five subjects have localized candidate enrollments and that the timetable was drafted considering overall national logistical readiness. - Regular Session Schools: For all schools in standard zones, practical examinations, project evaluations, and viva assessments commence from January 1, 2027 and must conclude before February 14, 2027.
- External Examiners: For Class 12, practical exams are overseen by external examiners appointed by CBSE. Marks are uploaded in real-time via the board's secure portal alongside geotagged group photographs of the practical batch.
